D U M P E D
We have had yet more animals dumped at our gates. On Sunday night (20th June), there was a mum cat and 3 four week old kittens abandoned in a box outside our Sanctuary. Before we could rescue them, mum had already escaped. So we set a trap up and thankfully due to Cathy's patience she was caught and reunited with her babies. We have called her Summer and her photo is below, together with other abandoned cats and kittens.

LEFT - 3 kittens Daphne, Delores and Des - found in a box. MIDDLE - Summer and 3 kittens dumped in box at Sanctuary. RIGHT - Blossom and 4 one week old kittens found in a zipped up suitcase in Bootle.
It's not only cats and kittens, on Tue 15th June just as some of the staff were going home, we noticed a shopping bag that had been left outside our gates. Inside was a mum, dad and 3 baby rabbits. But being very timid creatures, they quickly escaped into the surrounding fields. The staff waited patiently and thankfully caught them all.
They have settled in OK and we have arranged for dad to be neutered, as we do not want any more unwanted being born.
On the same night as the Bunnies were dumped, we had a member of public bring us a shoe box containing 3 two week old kittens. He had found them in a box by a pub in Kirkby. Tragically, their mum was already dead in a bin bag. It is heartbreaking to know that these poor animals are suffering out there.
WE CAN HELP - We are appealling for owners to come forward and ask for our help if they wish for their pets to be neutered.

Help us reduce the number of unwanted animals being born so those poor animals in rescue centres and out on the streets have a better chance and a safer future.
If you would like to sponsor any of our animals, we would love to hear from you.
THANK YOU FOR CARING
ROCKY is a free dog

Many of our supporters will remember the story of Rocky, a young X Breed who was seized from charity, Animals In Need (AIN) rescue centre 13 months ago. Rockys crime was that he appeared to the authorities to have substantial characteristics of a pit bull type. Rocky had not hurt anyone nor shown any aggression .
Fran Ellis, founder of Animals in Need, was charged under section one of the Dangerous Dogs Act and Rocky was taken from the rescue kennels to police appointed kennels. For the next 13 months Rocky was held at tax payers expense while AIN prepared to fight for his life. On Tuesday 19th January, Rockys case was heard. The Defence argued that Rocky was not a banned breed but lost and Rocky was deemed a banned breed. However the Judge felt that Rocky posed no danger and has allowed him to go home as a registered pit bull type.
13 months incarcerated, hundreds possibly thousands of tax payers money, time and heartache for all the rescuers hoping to save rockys life...all for a dog who never hurt anyone.
Rocky will now have to live his life out wearing a muzzle and being kept onlead in public but he WILL live. Maybe in his lifetime this ineffective, costly piece of legislation will be repealed and Rocky will finally be allowed to run free again.
The district judge gave all three defendants Fran Ellis, owners Harry & Judy Groves an absolute discharge and told them that they left the court with no stain on their character and would not be made to pay court costs.
